A metallic dragon is a magnificent creature that demands patience, respect, care, and unwavering devotion from its Dragonlord. During its first six months as a hatchling, a dragon benefits greatly from the guidance of a parental figure, even if that guardian is not a dragon.

To deepen the connection between rider and dragon, a Dragonlord may spend twelve consecutive Long Rests forging their bond with the newborn hatchling. At the end of this period, the Dragonlord and dragon establish a powerful telepathic link, allowing them to communicate mentally at a range of up to 1 mile.

Once a dragon has bonded with a Dragonlord, that bond can never be transferred to another creature. If its oathsworn dies, whether in battle or from old age, the dragon abandons civilization and retreats into the wilderness to live a solitary life.
