In whatever manner Lutheria is dealt with, once the heroes depart the Hypnos, Estor will have no need for a continued alliance with them.

Renewed Oath of Peace#

If the heroes renewed the Oath of Peace with Lutheria, read the following:

The air grows cold, and the timbers of the Ultros creak. The spirit of Estor materializes before you. “I spared you because you were useful,” he snarls. “I endured centuries of torment for this one moment, and you denied it to me. You chose Lutheria’s lies over my vengeance. You have stolen what I was owed. Now you will learn the price of mercy.”

At this point Estor will attack the heroes. Refer to Fighting Estor below.

Lutheria Dead#

If the heroes killed Lutheria and Estor was unable to help with the Xiphos of Slaughter (appendix C) then read the following:

The spirit of Estor materializes before you. “At last, she is gone. But that victory was meant to be mine. I carried this hatred through death and damnation, and you took it from me. You denied me the final stroke. Now, you will suffer for that mistake.”

Estor attacks immediately. Refer to Fighting Estor.

Lutheria Dead with Estor’s Help#

If the heroes killed Lutheria with Estor’s help using the Xiphos of Slaughter (appendix C) then read the following:

“It is done,” Estor says quietly. “You have given me what no soul ever has. Vengeance.” He turns to you. “You may keep the Ultros . I will not bar your path. But swear this to me. If ever you hold the power to name a god, you will raise me as the Lord of Death.” A thin smile crosses his face. “A harmless oath, is it not? Mortals do not shape the fate of gods.”

If the heroes take the oath, then Estor inclines his head in satisfaction and fades from sight. If any hero refuses, he attacks at once. Refer to Fighting Estor.

Fighting Estor#

  • Estor fights with the aid of the specters bound to the Ultros. Though the heroes have not seen them since their arrival in Mytros, these spirits never truly departed. They willingly sacrifice themselves to shield and empower their captain. Their sacrifice allows Estor to use his Spectral Bulwark and Spectral Sacrifice abilities. Estor can now be permanently destroyed. This is

possible because Lutheria is dead or because the heroes renewed the Oath of Peace and Lutheria has withdrawn her protection, allowing his spirit to be slain at last.

Use the Estor Arkelander stat block below. Estor can wield the Xiphos of Slaughter (appendix C) only if it is currently in his possession.
