Blood shadows are horrors that are not native to Thylea. They come from the dead world of the Yoten, a place where life has been broken and remade through cruelty. The beings that became blood shadows were once proud dire wolves that roamed that distant world, but they were twisted through ancient rites that have no name in any mortal tongue. Their bodies were stretched, pulled, and reshaped until every trace of nature was stripped away. Only the memory of the hunt remains.
A blood shadow looks like a moving silhouette of muscle and sinew, as if sculpted from the absence of light. Its eyes glow like coals seen through deep fog, and its limbs bend at unnatural angles. It moves with the unmistakable coordination of a pack hunter, yet its form does not resemble any creature born of Thylea. Where it walks, the air grows thin, as though the world itself recoils.
Unborn from flesh, blood shadows cannot be reasoned with. Their instincts are simple: obey, pursue, destroy. Even a single blood shadow is dangerous, for it fights with a bottomless well of rage inherited from the torment that made it. But when several emerge together, their pack instinct takes hold and they become a coordinated force of predation.
When a blood shadow is slain, its body hardens into cold black stone. These silent cairns are all that remain of their suffering. The stone shapes crumble over time, but those who pass near them feel a faint dread that lingers long after the creature has died.
