Automata, satyrs, centaurs, jancan, gygans, minotaurs, medusae, myrmekes, nyxian, and sirens are considered monstrous species. They have unique heritages that require slight changes to each epic background. Please refer to the Monstrous Species Epic Backgrounds table.

Table Legend#

  • A: Adopted Kin. You were adopted by a family, but a dragon destroyed them.

  • B: Borrowed Tribe. You were welcomed by a tribe that later vanished without a trace.

  • C: Chosen Calling. Founding a Dragon Order has become your purpose.

  • D: Displaced Native. You were a champion of a native tribe defeated by the Dragonlords. You seek to rebuild the order for all peoples.

  • E: Excluded Species. This epic background does not work well with this species.

  • F: Forbidden Subclass. Dragon Knight or Oath of the Dragonlord should not choose these backgrounds.

  • G: God Touched. You are descended from Pythor’s many unions with mortals and native races. You represent Oldwoods druids or the steppe tribes.

  • H: Highly Compatible. This epic background is a strong match for this species.

  • K: Kinsworn Chieftain. You led a mixed or monstrous tribe of the distant steppes before it mysteriously vanished.

  • L: Living Vessel. Pythor and a willing woman gave fragments of their souls to seed your automatos creation, making them your parents

  • M: Myrmekes Curse. Your entire species is cursed. Your memories are broken, but you recall volunteering to seek the Oracle and learn how to end it.

  • O: Outsider Myrmekes. The crew of a pirate ship became your family. You sailed to Thylea seeking treasure but also hoping to find your true homeland.

  • P: Pirate Brassguard. You are a brassguard construct who captained a ship from beyond the Forgotten Sea, crewed entirely by others of your kind.

  • S: Stranger. You came from across the Forgotten Sea and do not recognize the history or customs of your species in Thylea, for your people followed different traditions.

  • T: Titan Bloodline. One of your ancestors was a Titan, such as Sydon or Lutheria.
