The people of Grimnir are pragmatic, valuing strength and bravery above all. They revere their forebears, the Vanir, whose endurance and deeds set the measure of worth. Yet from the first generations after their arrival, the folk of Grimnir diverged.

Some chose to bind themselves to the land, raising farms, towns, and the first small kingdoms. They became the Baendur. Others spurned such roots, preferring freedom in wandering bands that roamed coasts and wilds. These became the clans, deriding their kin as soft and complacent, and soon turning their hunger against the settlements themselves.

From this fracture arose two ways of life. Those of the settled Baendur kingdoms and those of the clans. Both still call themselves true heirs of the Vanir, though each claims the other has strayed from the ancestors’ path.
